Unistar chemcial is a leading manufacturer of basic and intermediate chemicals for solvents ,foam blowing agent and refrigerant.
In addition to manufacturing the most advanced solvent, Unistar Chemical also devote to produce safer, more environmental friendly chemical solution across the entire manufacturing industry.
Trans-DCE is a direct replacement for n-PB and other traditional chlorinated and bromide solvents. EPA SNAP Approved trans-DCE as solvent in Aerosol, Electronic, Metal and Precision Cleaning and some of Foam Blowing Formulation.
Trans DCE is a next-generation chlorinated solvent that can be widely used in precision cleaning applications. Compared with traditional chlorinated and bromide solvents , trans DCE is much safer for human health and friendlier to environmental properties.
Pure Trans DCE is a flammable liquid with a flash point of 2°C (36°F). However, the azeotropic blends of Trans DCE manufactured by Unistar are nonflammable, maintaining a constant composition at the boiling point, the nonflammable characteristics are preserved throughout the use of the product.
Environmental Considerations
Trans DCE manufactured by Unistar is short-lived in the atmosphere, because of this nature, it has very little impact on either stratospheric ozone or global climate change.
The commercialization and wide acception of trans DCE have greatly contributed to substantial reductions in the use and emissions of ozone depleting substances, compounds with high global warming potential and air toxins on the customers’ end.
Regulatory Considerations
Unlike other cleansing solvents such as methylene chloride, perchloroethylene or trichloroethylene, trans DCE is not regulated under 40 CFR Part 63 – Subpart T – National Emission Standards for Halogenated Solvent Cleaning.
Trans DCE is an definite advantage over other chlorinated solvents in its EHS properties. Its uniqueness generates a far more favorable regulatory landscape and makes it more sustainable choice for precision cleaning.
Trans DCE has also been reviewed and approved by the U.S. EPA Significant New Alternatives Policy Program (SNAP) as an acceptable substitute for ozone depleting substances.
It was demonstrated that TDCE is very effective at reducing the vapor pressure and viscosity of some HFCs/polyol premixes by virtue of its improved solubility, as well as dramatically reducing the degree of frothing and number of pin-holes. Most recent works found that TDCE provided a valuable combination of processing and property improvements in HFC-245fa blown spray wall formulations and was one of the factors in achieving a class I ASTM E-84 rating. Many HFCs blended with Trans-1,2-Dichlorothyelene improve on foam fire performance of Urethane foam.
TDCE is also work with next generation of HFOs very well. Except the function above, blending with TDCE will lower the total cost in these applications.
Experiments has shown many HFCs/HFOs are good candidates to remove flash point of TDCE. This eliminates the concern about the flammability of TDCE.
Unistar chemcial is a leading manufacturer of basic and intermediate chemicals for solvents ,foam blowing agent and refrigerant. Trans-DCE, a new generation solvent, manufactured by us was proven to be an ideal replacement of traditional chlorinated and bromide solvents.
Advantages as Solvent
The safety of trans DCE is a key factor that differentiates it from other solvents. Over the past 15 years, research findings and the test of time have both proven the safety level of trans DCE. Is has been solidified that trans DCE is a safe and sustainable replacement for ODSs, hazardous air pollutants, HFC-based substitutes and nPB.
Based on safety data produced from information on the U.S. EPA website, the safety of trans DCE after repeated exposures can be assured. One study has showed that rats repeatedly exposed to 4000 ppm suffered from no adverse health effects. Considering the 200 ppm exposure guideline on those experienced in the work environment, there is a large margin of safety between the guideline and concentrations likely to be experienced in the workplace.
